Quick Answer

Import your clips, trim on the timeline, add simple transitions and a title, then export with the YouTube or TikTok preset. That’s it — your first edit done.

Beginner workflow (7 steps)

1
Import media
Click Import, drag & drop videos, images, and music into the Media bin.
2
Arrange on the timeline
Drag clips onto the timeline in order. Use multiple tracks if needed.
3
Trim and split
Move the playhead and press Split to cut. Drag edges of clips to trim unwanted parts.
4
Add transitions & effects
Select a cut → choose Transition for crossfades; apply Effects for color, speed, or stabilization.
5
Clean up audio
Adjust volume, reduce noise, and balance music vs. voice. Keep dialog around −12 to −6 dB.
6
Add a title
Insert Text/Title for intro or lower‑thirds. Keep it short and readable on mobile screens.
7
Export with a preset
Use the YouTube/TikTok preset for correct resolution, framerate, and bitrate. See Export Presets.

Tips & shortcuts

  • Split: with playhead on cut point, press S (or click Split).
  • Undo/Redo: Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y.
  • Zoom timeline: Ctrl + mouse wheel.
  • Mute/Unmute clip: Right‑click clip → Mute.
  • Export faster: Close other apps; use local drive, not network.

Common pitfalls

  • Clips don’t import? Update Windows and install Media Feature Pack (N editions).
  • No audio in export? Ensure tracks aren’t muted; use MP4 H.264/AAC.
  • Jerky playback? Lower preview quality; final export will be smooth.
